Ecological Restoration – Rous River

Property, size and landowner

This property is approximately 5 acres of riverfront land on Rous River, Cedar Creek, Northern NSW.

Period of management

The property has been managed in conjunction with Tweed Shire Council and Conservation Connection from March 2017 until July 2019

Project location

The property is directly on a section of the Rous River in Cedar Creek, approximately 15km west of Murwillumbah NSW. The property is in a significant position, as part of a corridor to surrounding National Parks and World Heritage areas. Lamington National Park is to the due North, Border Ranges N.P to the West and Mount warning N.P to the South

Project description/issues

This Riparian restoration project is aimed at assisting the landowner to achieve improved environmental outcomes including; improving water quality, biodiversity and health of the river. Other objectives are to control the impact of weeds on the existing, native vegetation and address bank erosion whilst enhancing the landowners knowledge in Ecological Restoration.

Services provided


Conservation Connection provided professional services to assess, plan and design project works.

Carry out on-ground works guided by the Habitat Restoration Plan for site.

Strategic weed control (primary and maintenance).

Revegetation, Site record keeping, monitoring and project reporting are all services provided during the project period.

Grants


The project is funded by Tweed Council’s River Health program, which is funded by NSW government grants form Environmental Trust
