Property, size and landowner
“Tree haven” is a 100 ha property owned by Don Edwards since 1978.
Don Edwards has actively regenerated the property, himself, since 1978!!
Period of management
2012 – 2019
Project location
“Tree haven” is located in Terragon NSW, near Uki. The property is immediately adjacent to Mt.Warning (Wollumbin) National Park, bordering N.P. on 2 sides. It is nestled in the caldera of the volcano that erupted approximately 20 million years ago!
Project description/issues
Numerous projects have operated over time to address weed invasion of High Conservation Value rainforest. Land clearing, logging and habitat disturbance, in the past, has allowed weed species to invade the property thus competing with native plants and their associated ecosystems.
The property is home to many rare plants and animals and has significant habitat value because of it’s size and proximity to N.P and surrounding landscape.
Services Provided
Site assessment and planning to guide works in field, including mapping key regeneration areas and major weed infestations.
Systematic and strategic Bush Regeneration work has been undertaken to control weeds in management zones.
Successive treatments of same areas, over time, allows natural regeneration to occur and develop into healthy, sustainable rainforest.
Fauna surveys,
Site monitoring, project reporting and educational field days are carried out as well to compliment on-ground works
